Most English coverage of Kinosaki is a paragraph inside a Kansai listicle: good photographs, the word “charming,” and a bathhouse closing day that changed two seasons ago.


A town this deliberate deserves the opposite, and rewards it. Kinosaki is a place of specifics — seven bathhouses with different opening hours and different closing days, a pass that arrives with your room rather than at a ticket window, a crab season that starts on one fixed date, and one house closed for long-term renovation.


Specifics rot quickly and matter enormously. This site’s only job is keeping them true.
